Oakland designer, Amy Sarabi, off Project Runway
One of the greatest challenges a writer faces is delivering the facts without interjecting their personal opinion. It is not only challenging but virtually impossible. In everything we read, we hear a hint of the writer's voice. They glean their opinions in our heads and subconsciously sway us their way.
I faced such a challenge last week. Much to my dismay, Oakland's own Amy Sarabi was the latest to go on Project Runway. If you haven't checked out the show, Amy is an amazing designer. She is innovative and intelligent in her design and impeccable in her construction. Despite her talent, the judges were not impressed with her last two designs.
I was angry and frustrated to watch the events unfold last Thursday on Project Runway. Season after season, I have watched several talentless designers given every opportunity to showcase their wares. Even this season, Amy clearly wasn't given the recognition she deserved in several challenges. With this latest show, I fear a show that was meant to bring new and innovative designers to the forefront is, perhaps losing its edge.
Many felt Amy didn't deserve to go, including Tim Gunn. Please support Amy in her future endeavors and make it clear to Project Runway that they made a mistake. It is my hope that Project Runway will rediscover it original path and Amy receives the credit for her talent and hard work that she deserves.
